I am a learning specialist with the Calgary Board of Education. This blog is a place for me to reflect on what I do daily basis! My ideas are my ideas and are most of the time aligned with my work. This blog is not about self promotion, but rather, a place to share my ideas with others.
Where I Come From
I started off my teaching career in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2003. I worked at Target Road School for two years to get my certification before I immigrated to Canada to settle down and build a family with my wife, Emily. Immigrating here and leaving my family and friends was one of the hardest things I've ever done but it was made easier by my Canadian family and also all the people I meant around the time of my transition.
My daily work focuses on inquiry based learning (IBL) and project based learning (PBL). I tend to think digitally when it comes to learning and try to offer alternative ideas to other teachers and students of different ways to present and express learning. My belief is that technology is an amazing learning tools and can help many people connect with what they are learning about in some way, shape, or form. After saying all that, I also believe that technology is not always the right resource for certain projects.
My Twitter Journey
About half way through the 2011-2012 school year, I began 'tinkering' with Twitter as tool to add to my toolkit. I had no idea about what value Twitter would add to my work, but after playing around with it I found it to be an amazing Professional Development tool. Since then I have been inspired by thousands of teachers from around the globe. To this day I continue to share my ideas, as well as the ideas of others through Twitter.
I am married to Emily and we have three amazing children, Charlie, Frankie and Billie. We live in Calgary's NW. I love my family and they will always come first in my life!
